Feeling stuck between cultures? Confused about who you are?

Are you frustrated with your immigrant parents?

Are you having difficulty adjusting to living in America?

Like many people who immigrated to North America, first generation immigrants, children of immigrants, or international students, you may be struggling with issues of cultural identity, differences in values, beliefs and life styles. You may not know that these concerns can be explored with a therapist in a safe and confidential environment.  A therapist can help you with emotional and psychological adjustments related to acculturation.

I work with clients from a variety of cultural backgrounds experiencing difficulties adjusting to life in America.  I see international students who struggle with language and cultural barriers.  Many of my clients are immigrants struggling with beliefs, values, lifestyle as well as dealing with losses and grief related to displacement and uprooting from their culture.  I have also worked with many first or second generations, children of immigrants, facing different challenges from their parents, such as finding their own identity, individuation, being in multicultural relationships or marriages, and navigating their cultural background.

I work to understand my clients through their unique, individual, and cultural lens with sensitivity and understanding from my own experience as an international student, an immigrant and a bi-cultural person going through transitions. I strive to provide culturally sensitive and competent services. I help my clients find what values, beliefs or life styles from their culture of origin which fit them and work for them, and explore ways of continuing to live with these values.  We also explore those values that no longer fit my clients' current lives, even though those values were important and supported them for sometime.  Through our work together, my clients discover different ways of being, feeling more integrated as a person with diverse backgrounds and values.  They experience less conflict within themselves and come to a more integrated cultural identity.

Finding therapist that is a good fit is important since we will be working with issues that are deeply personal.  Please call with any questions you may have.  Call now for a consultation session.
